Home energy systems for the modern California grid.

Big battery

Everything changed with California’s recent policy shift away from “net metering”. We no longer get paid the same for energy we export (to the grid) as we pay for energy we consume. We now get paid far less on average, but far more during certain periods of high grid stress. The key is to store solar energy and export it rapidly when the grid needs it the most. Enter the home battery.

All solar companies have begun to include battery systems in their proposals to California homeowners, but we believe the batteries they propose aren’t big enough. Our residential system has 2-3x the energy storage capacity you’ll see from other installers, and we offer it at roughly half the price.

A much larger battery system will yield higher bill savings and can be harnessed to generate additional revenue by providing ‘grid services’.

We have optimized hardware costs, streamlined business model to cut “soft costs”, and built the right software to capture as much value as possible from these large battery systems. In doing this, we are able to offer unmatched financial returns on a home energy investment.

High impact

The California electric grid can’t expand fast enough to allow electrification to proceed at the rate needed to meet climate goals. We have to make far better use of the grid we have, enabling it to move double or triple the energy it does today. This will require many thousands of grid-connected batteries capable of discharging on command, at high power, for multiple hours (2 hours +). It is this fundamental goal which primarily drove our design.

Our system can supply your home consumption while also exporting 10kW to the grid for a full two hours when the grid needs it. Each system installed shaves 10kW off the grid’s peak power demand problem!

Simple

It took us 6 months of research and experimentation to arrive at what we believe is the best approach to home energy for the majority of California homeowners. We know most people don’t have the time to do this. There are too many hardware options, too many rules and codes to navigate, too many questions about how the next 20 years will unfold, outdated rules of thumb, ever-changing rebates and incentives, wide-ranging quotes, and questionable sales tactics.

We wanted to remove this giant burden on homeowners by providing a single, great option. One system. One price. One process. Don’t let the complexity and lack of time cause you to delay another year! Take the easy (and best) option.

Fair and transparent

Transparent Pricing

We provide a detailed price breakdown so you know exactly where your money is going. No games. No hidden margins.

Transparent Contracts

No hidden fees, no nickel and diming with “add-ons”, no predatory buyout clauses, no misleading warranty terms. All terms are summarized in plain English and sent to you before you sign anything.

Fair Warranty

Our warranty is backed the equipment warranties from the manufacturers to ensure you’re in a great position even in the impossibly unlikely event Potrero Energy is not around for the full term.

  1. 10 year workmanship warranty covering the installation work across the entire system

  1. 10 year warranty on batteries/inverters

  2. 20 year warranty on solar panels

Resilient

In the event of a grid outage, our system immediately (20ms) switches over to supplying your full home from the battery system. You will receive a message notifying you of the grid outage and that power to your largest electric loads (EV, heat pump, or water heater) has been cutoff. It is then your choice whether to restore power to any of these loads.

The 29 kWh battery is large enough to carry you through the night with virtually no rationing of power. In the morning your solar will begin refilling the battery, and the cycle repeats until power is restored.
